Maine LD1530 Passes Both House and Senate
Legislature has approved a bill to legalize tiny homes in Maine
Maine becomes the first state in the country to pass legislature legalizing tiny homes.
AUGUSTA, Maine
The Maine Legislature has approved Maine LD 1530 that will require municipalities to legally recognize tiny homes as a primary dwelling. Maine becomes the first state in the nation to legally recognize tiny homes as a primary dwelling.
The measure, proposed by Rep. Dave McCrea (D-Fort Fairfield), would require municipalities to allow people to live in tiny homes as a primary or accessory dwelling. Previously, towns and municipalities had to individually approve or reject each proposed tiny home structure. The bill will now head to the governor’s desk to await her signature.
